2009 Platteville Farmers Market Guidelines

1. Qualifications

The Platteville Farmers Market is an outlet for selling locally grown, seasonal fruits, vegetables, cider, honey, sorghum, maple syrup, fresh and dried flowers, nuts, indoor and outdoor plants, baked goods, processed foods, dairy products, meats and vendor produced apparel and crafts. The market is intended to give growers, producers of goods, and consumers, an opportunity to deal directly with each other. The Market is also intended to enhance the downtown shopping area of Platteville.

2. Market Managers
This is a volunteer position. The current market managers are Gary Olson, 608-348-3992 olsong@potosisd.k12.wi.us and Tony Demmer 608-732-8105, andemmer@yahoo.com.  Ted Kearns is the contact for Tuesday’s market. He may be reached at 608-348- 5210 or jtkearns@centurytel.net.

3. Space and Contributions
All individuals wishing to participate in the Market will sign the Vendor Contact Information form. No sharing of space is allowed unless the Market Manager is notified. Vendors will sell at City Park only on market days. Vendors wishing to participate season-long contribute $30.00 for One (1) stall. Vendors may choose to contribute more if they like. All funds will be used strictly for advertising and promotion of the Market. Checks can be made payable to the Platteville Main Street Program. No refunds will be given.


Daily vendors will be charged $5.00 per day for a maximum of $30.00 (after five vending days fees will no longer be assessed). Daily vendors are strongly encouraged to contact a market manager before arriving at the market. Copies of the vendor application, regulations, and contract will be available at the market.

4. State, County and Local Guidelines and Regulations
Each vendor is responsible for having knowledge of and complying with ALL State of Wisconsin, Grant County, and City of Platteville laws governing health, packaging, labeling, taxes, scales, weights and measures, etc. Vendors are responsible for collecting sales tax on any non-food items, and must display appropriate retail licensing.

5. Dates and Hours of Operation
The Platteville Farmers Market will begin on the first Saturday and Tuesday of May continuing through the last Saturday and Tuesday of October.

Saturday hours are 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Tuesday hours are 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 or 7:00 p.m. (depending on daylight length). Vendors may set up earlier and are encouraged to remain set up until closing. Reserved stalls will be saved until 8 am.

6. Spaces and Location
The Saturday market is located at Platteville’s City Park, across from City Hall. Tuesday’s market is in the Ashley Furniture parking lot on business Hwy 151.

Spaces will be assigned to full-time vendors and will remain constant for the duration of the season. Daily vendors will be assigned a space the day of the market on a first come first serve basis.

7. Maintenance
Vendors will furnish their own tables, chairs, bags, extension cords, tent canopies and any other necessary supplies. Water and restrooms are accessible.

Each vendor is responsible for cleaning up all refuse around their booth and making sure that any Market debris in the park is cleaned up and taken out of the park. Absolutely no dumping of produce refuse in park receptacles.

8. Prices
Each vendor is responsible for their own pricing. Prices should be readily visible to customers. They may be displayed on one large sign, smaller signs placed beside each product or by individually pricing items.

9. Market Promotion
Advertising for the Platteville Farmers Market is supported solely by vendor fees and donations. Vendors work together to arrange advertising for the Market.

10. Insurance
Vendors are responsible for their own personal and product liability insurance.
